The ERC is a higher education institution at VŠB – Technical University in Ostrava, Czech Republic. R&D activities especially concentrate on renewable resources of biomass fuels, but research activities imply also other fuels like noble carbon or waste fuels.
The staff of ERC teaches in bachelor, master, and doctoral degree courses - both full-time and part-time - at two faculties of the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava. ERC provides for R&D activities regarding the combustion of solid fuels in particular, inclusive biomass, and problems of efficient and environment friendly energy policies and engineering. Another important activity is represented by testing of boilers and combustors both in ERC's own testing facilities and directly on the premises of individual customers. An accredited laboratory for measurements of thermal and technical parameters operates in the ERC, which is also used for training the emission measurement personnel on all qualification levels.
The major R&D activities are realised by implementation of the grant funded projects by the national and international bodies, e.g. Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Czech Republic, Municipal government of Ostrava, or the European Union (FP 4, FP 5, FP 6). The ERC closely cooperates with other workplaces at VŠB-TU Ostrava and industrial partners and other research organizations.
Energy Research Center will be Competence Access Centre (CAC) at the field of Biomass provision.
