The German Federal Government, represented by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, has created the German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ – Deutsches BiomasseForschungsZentrum gemeinnützige GmbH) in order to answer technical, economical, and ecological questions upon the energetic use of biomass, which it sees as contribution to climate protection. Beyond R&D issues, DBFZ also works application-oriented and offers services for private, public and independent clients.
With the results from DBFZ´s research the organisation supports the market entrance of its partners. DBFZ experts are represented in numerous committees and commissions (i.e. development of standards and directives). Additionally, the DBFZ intends to interlink the activities of the important biomass and bioenergy players. It also supports the export activities of the German economy in the field of plants and components for the energy production from biomass. The consolidation and initiation of contacts to international partners is a crossdepartmental issue. By this means, the DBFZ as a competent counterpart contributes to providing sustainable energy in Germany, Europe and other countries through the efficient use of biomass. More specific, DBFZ´s scientists work in the departments’ "Bioenergy Systems", "Biochemical Conversion", "Thermo-chemical Conversion" and "Biorefineries" with an interdisciplinary approach. DBFZ´s main responsibility within the “Coach BioEnergy” project is the evaluation and assessment of biomass conversion pathways based on regional conditions, like biomass availability, energy infrastructure and demand. DBFZ participates as a Competence Access Centre (CAC) in the project. |
